Here is my review of Loveboat, Taipei:
| I've never been so torn about a book before. Torn in the fact that I was so emotional the WHOLE story. I wanted the characters to succeed so badly. I wanted them to get what they wanted and live the lives they dreamed of. The "american dream" is different for everyone. I know I'm extremely privileged to have grown up not worrying about what my family gave up for me to have a better life. I know that I cannot understand that mindset. I loved this story and it was an important one, especially for people like me. It also handled relationships in a way that makes sense for 18 year olds on their way to college. Thank you to the author for addressing feminine sexuality in a way that makes it accessible and for the breaking of stereotypes she does throughout the book. It was lovely to see. Read this book. I loved it. I should mention, I listened to this book. The narration was wonderful. This is especially helpful as I do not speak many of the eastern languages spoken in the book. |
