November 2021 Reads

Here's what I read in November 2021:

 Revenge of the Syndicate

Book 1 blew my mind. Book 2 was a lot of filler. Good filler, but not as much smut as book 1. It actually felt a lot like books in the Leopards series by Christine Feehan(I mean that 100% as a compliment). There were many new characters and I like the majority of them. This one ends on a cliffhanger as well.

How to Be Chic in Winter

I wanted to like this book more, but I just didn't. It was very basic and focuses on an aesthetic, which may work for some people, but really wasn't what I was looking for. This would be a good book for someone who may be new to the concepts of planning things out.

Breathing Lessons- ARC

This was incredibly interesting. Especially in the times of COVID. Understanding how the lungs work and how to keep them functioning well is something that should be taught to everyone. As someone who had long-hauler COVID symptoms and still struggles occasionally this book offered real solutions for improving lung function instead of vague recommendations. I absolutely recommend this book to those who have had COVID or have a family member who has or if you're interested your biology and how it works.

Feed Your Best Friend Better-ARC

This is a great book for anyone looking to feed their fur babies better food. It is full of wonderful recommendations and recipes. The supplement list is helpful as well. This book helped me move our English bulldogs off of dry food and they are so much healthier since doing so.

Mystic Bayou series: 7 books

This was a comfort re-listen for sure. I love all the characters and I was struggling to finish a bunch of tasks that were tedious, so I re-started this series. I devoured it in less than a week. I had a lot of tasks to do. Sometimes you just need to pop back in to a world you love. This is one of my favorites by far. I own 3/7 and the rest are available as part of the Plus program.

The Ritual

This may be the darkest book I have ever read. To the point where many of the scenes were uncomfortable for me to read. It is dark sexually. Seriously read the trigger warnings and other reviews before deciding this book is something you can handle. I'm saying that in the best possible way. This book was incredible. The plot is great. The sex scenes were fire. This book will ruin you in the best way. I didn't expect this to be as good as it was. Also, it's quite a long read, just as a heads up.

Taste: My Life Through Food

Loving this. Now I want all of the Italian food. If you love his voice, you will love his book. It does include a few recipes and lots of food related stories. Definitely a comfort listen. I listened to the audiobook so it was just perfect.

A Simple Favor: Review

Let me start off by saying this...I don't often read thrillers.  Why? I have an overactive imagination and a third degree black belt. I'm not the kind of person who needs to feel freaked out or that something is watching me. Also, why I don't do haunted houses.  A Simple Favor is one of those books that you can't put down once you pick it up. It sucks you in and you just have to know how the story ends. I'm normally a pretty vocal reader- I'll laugh out loud at things that are funny, but I said a LOT of bad words while reading this book. There were so many WTF?! moments. I started reading it last night and had to put it down for the night and read something lighthearted(thanks Mutts comics) before bed. I picked it up again this morning, read for 2 hours before work, and finished it on my lunch break.  Wow. The story loops and pulls and wraps you in it so tightly that you won't know who the bad guy really is or if the whole story is just a delusi...

Top 3 Books of the Year

There is a great post on Goodreads right now about the Goodreads Team's Top 3 Reads of the Year. I love posts like that because they are so personal. Everyone loves different things for different reasons. Some of the top books are books that were written decades ago, but are new to the reader. I love those. My Top 3 Books of the Year are: -Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J Mass -Only Human by Sylvain Nuevel -The Loose Ends list by Carrie Firestone What are your top 3 reads of the year? What makes you choose a book as one of your top 3 reads of the year? For me: 1. Made me think 2. Made me feel 3. Put me in the character's shoes 4. Taught/ reminded me of a valuable lesson
