I joined Scribd...my first thoughts.

In many of the book groups I'm a part of on FB there is talk about Scribd, especially for those of us who mainly listen to audiobooks.  I saw a great deal right after new years day to get Scribd for under $8 a month. I jumped on it. I've had it for 2 weeks now and I'm so very glad that I signed up for it. Books that I have waited MONTHS for from the library are available immediately. There are audiobooks GALORE. It's like having every library book immediately available. This doesn't mean I'll stop using my library, but it's easy to just hop on the app and pull up a book to listen to while I scroll through IG/FB and sometimes I'm so caught up in the book, that those apps never get opened. I read somewhere that if we opened a book every time we went to open an app- the average American would be able to read 200 books a year. I'm giving it a shot- kind of.

In the first two weeks I've saved somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 books/audiobooks that I want to read/listen to.  I've read 2 books and listened to 1. I'm currently listening to $100 Startup: Reinvent the Way You Make A Living by Chris Guillebeau.

I have Audible. I think this will help me stop making impulse buys during the sales. And now I can listen to just about anything whenever I want. I won't end my subscription to Audible as I love owning audiobooks as well.

If you've been following me, you know I have a problem with buying books. So far in January I've bought 0 books. Woohoo! I'm hoping to keep this up for a few months except for auto buy authors. By having a subscription to a huge library of books and audiobooks and an actual library card I'm less likely to buy a book/audiobook.

I'm really happy that I signed up and I look forward to increasing my reading/listening this year.

A Simple Favor: Review

Let me start off by saying this...I don't often read thrillers.  Why? I have an overactive imagination and a third degree black belt. I'm not the kind of person who needs to feel freaked out or that something is watching me. Also, why I don't do haunted houses.  A Simple Favor is one of those books that you can't put down once you pick it up. It sucks you in and you just have to know how the story ends. I'm normally a pretty vocal reader- I'll laugh out loud at things that are funny, but I said a LOT of bad words while reading this book. There were so many WTF?! moments. I started reading it last night and had to put it down for the night and read something lighthearted(thanks Mutts comics) before bed. I picked it up again this morning, read for 2 hours before work, and finished it on my lunch break.  Wow. The story loops and pulls and wraps you in it so tightly that you won't know who the bad guy really is or if the whole story is just a delusi...

Top 3 Books of the Year

There is a great post on Goodreads right now about the Goodreads Team's Top 3 Reads of the Year. I love posts like that because they are so personal. Everyone loves different things for different reasons. Some of the top books are books that were written decades ago, but are new to the reader. I love those. My Top 3 Books of the Year are: -Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J Mass -Only Human by Sylvain Nuevel -The Loose Ends list by Carrie Firestone What are your top 3 reads of the year? What makes you choose a book as one of your top 3 reads of the year? For me: 1. Made me think 2. Made me feel 3. Put me in the character's shoes 4. Taught/ reminded me of a valuable lesson
