ARC's on my TBR Dec 2020-February 2021

Here's what I have from Netgalley that's coming out Dec 2020-February 2021 December 2020 #Blocked: A Social Media Love Story Fashion influencer, Winter Smith, portrays a picture-perfect lifestyle to her many followers. In reality, she’s plagued by anxiety, panic attacks, and the memories of an abusive past relationship. Winter’s best friend Mia, a health and fitness influencer, finally convinces her to get out of the house and attend the grand opening of a hipster-tech bowling alley in Portland, Oregon. There she meets the charming, tattoo-covered owner, Bo Blaine. No matter how hard she resists, Winter can’t deny the electricity between them. When Bo Blaine, the youngest member of the powerful Pacific Northwest Blaine family, meets Winter Smith, he’s instantly infatuated. Their connection is undeniable, but when he tries to contact her again, he hits a brick wall. Email. Phone. App. Every social media platform. BLOCKED. Bo has worked hard to shake his “bad boy” reputation, bu...

December 2020 Audio TBR

Somehow it's December of 2020 already?! Listening to Christmas music at work, Christmas decorations up, and 24 days until Christmas; here we are.  Work is getting a little crazy again, but that's to be expected at the end of the year. Many of our folks are out and many of the folks we work with are on vacation as well. So most mornings I listen to Christmas music until there are more people in the office, and then I switch over to an audiobook.  Here's what I'm hoping to listen to in December. It's a lot. I'm already part of the way through Mistletoe and Mr. Right as well as Rice, Noodle, Fish. Both are very enjoyable.

Top listens of 2020: July 2020 edition

Here are my top listens of the year so far: Open Book The Mystic Bayou Series : 5 books The Truly Devious Series His Royal Highness The Rural Diaries Once More Upon a Time

Open Book: Review

Open Book by Jessica Simpson Review Before starting this book all I knew about Jessica Simpson was: 1. Pop star in the 2000's 2. Chicken of the sea incident 3.Dukes of Hazzard 4. Clothing Line- I own a dress by her Like many people I assumed these things were all there was to know about her. Her life affects mine exactly 0%. Her memoir blew me away. It is one of my top listens of the year. Jessica narrates her memoir and that adds a dimension of authenticity to it that I appreciate. This is not a happy go lucky book. It's her story of growing up, failing, choosing herself first, relationships, and dealing with addiction. It is DEEP. I want you to read it.  I got a lot more out of this than I had planned. I thought it was going to be a light memoir. Nope. Wrong. DEEP memoir. Personal memoir. Dealing with dark shit memoir. All of us can see ourselves in her. We have shared experiences. Her story reminded me that we are all human and doing the best we can. Some people have an extr...

Recent Cookbook Reviews July 20,2020

Here are some of the cookbooks I have recently reviewed on Netgalley. Pub Date Oct 13,2020 Review:  Wow. Chasing Flavor is phenomenal. There are so many things to love about it. The photography is beautiful. Showing the reader what something is supposed to look like will always win me over. At the start of the book there is a whole section on technique with pictures for how it should look when you do it. Each recipe also comes with a "Takeaway" section that gives insight to the reader. The Tomato-Raspberry Gazpacho was a huge hit in my house. Chasing Flavor gives new and experienced cooks the tools to build a repetoire of recipes and hits that will last for years to come. Although the food is elevated, it is still simple enough to be accessible to the home cook. This is a book I will definitely be gifting to those headed to college/in an apt for the first time/getting married. Pub Date Oct 7,2020 Review:  I LOVE this book. One thing I love about Cook Anime is that each recip...

A lot going on in the world

There is a lot going on in the world and many of us are turning to books for education, as we should.  This blog post from Audible does a great job of recommending books and why they matter.  Voices of Audible: What we are listening to now Enjoy.

Cookbook reviews: April + May

I've read, reviewed, and cooked from a TON of cookbooks in the last two months. These are the cookbooks ARC's from NETGALLEY.  I thought I knew a lot about global food. This book has taught me, I was wrong. I learned so much about foods that I never would be able to try in my city or that I need to seek out in my city. The variety of recipes is astounding. I can't wait to get a physical copy of this book so I can make more of the recipes.                                                                                                                                        This is a bea...
